How to Improve Your Voice Resonance – The Hidden Trick That Will Help You Sound More Confident

Your voice is one of your most important and powerful tools in life. It’s the thing that helps you get your message across to someone when you’re speaking to them, or the thing that makes them flee from you because they can’t stand listening to you any longer. Voice is a very important element in personal presence, which is why it might be a good idea for you to read this article about how to improve your voice resonance. We all know that what we say and how we say it are equally as important. However, not many of us give much thought to the way our voices sound when we speak. We tend to take our voices for granted until somebody tells us that we sound annoying, whiny or monotonous. If you want people to listen to what you have to say instead of tuning out the moment you open your mouth, follow these tips on how to improve your voice resonance:

Practice Speaking From Your Diaphragm

The diaphragm is a muscle located at the base of your lungs. It’s what you use when you breathe in and out. When you’re speaking, you want to use your diaphragm as opposed to your chest muscles. This will help you sound more resonant, richer and deeper. It will also help you prevent strain in your vocal chords. If you notice yourself speaking from your chest, you can do a simple exercise to help retrain yourself.

  • Bend forward and place your hands somewhere around your knees, just like you’ve finished sprinting and you are recovering from the run.
  • Exhale first and then inhale slowly. (through your mouth or nose are fine!)
  • You will notice your abdominal area starts to expand 360deg around (not your tummy protuding outwards, which is a common mistake!)
  • This is the movement of your diaphragm movement as it pressed down towards your intestinal masses, hence the expansion 360deg.

Add Breathing Exercises to Your Morning Routine

You may think that breathing exercises are only useful for people who wish to gain self-confidence or want to calm down, but you would be surprised to know that proper breathing habits can make a huge difference in how you sound. When you breathe from your chest, your voice will be more monotone and higher pitched. The support ring for your voice will be higher hence the anchoring of your voice is shallower. If you want to sound more resonant, richer and deeper, try breathing in and out from your diaphragm. Commit yourself to do Breathing exercises such the above, for at least 2 mins daily. Do it slowly – you can count silently from 1-5, then increasing it to 1-10, for both inhale and exhale. These are great practices in understanding the rationing the air exhalation too, which is essential is voice production.

Invest in Good Voice Coaching

Having a voice coach or a mentor is always a good idea because they can not only help you with your goals but they can also help you discover new things about yourself that you never knew. They can help you become a better version of yourself, and finding a voice coach would do the same. A voice coach will help you get rid of your bad habits and give you techniques that will help you use your voice at your best. There are many voice coaches online these days, so you can easily find one that suits your needs and is in your budget. Having a voice coach will greatly improve your voice and help you improve your voice resonance. They will be able to help you to identify with your poor voice habits and make sure that you start to do corrections step-by-step.

Don’t be afraid to shake things up!

Lastly, being predictable is never a good idea. It’s all well and good having a go-to voice tone, but you don’t want to sound the same every time you open your mouth. If you’re in a rut with your voice, try shaking things up every now and again by trying a different tone. It doesn’t have to be drastic or drastic. It could be as simple as speaking a bit louder or softer than usual, or holding back on the intonations you usually use. That being said, if you don’t know how to improve your voice resonance or you have no idea where to even start, don’t stress out. Invest in a good voice coach and they will gladly guide you through the process of making your voice resonate and sound better.
